Southeast Asian Small Business Resource Fair Workshop Recap

We are thrilled to share the success of our recent Southeast Asian Business Resource Fair Workshop held on Tuesday, May 21st, 2024 from 12-5pm at the Nisei Veterans Committee Memorial Hall. The event brought together dedicated Southeast Asian small business owners from all generations, eager to learn about valuable government agencies and business support resources.

A Great Turnout

We had a great turnout, with 10 business owners attending to gain insights and support for their entrepreneurial journey. Attendees acquired contact information, flyers, handouts, and program resources from participating agencies and connected with peers and experts alike, fostering a strong sense of community and cultural pride.

Insightful Discussions and Presentations

Our event featured insightful discussions with representatives from key government agencies, including the Office of Innovation and Regulatory Assistance (ORIA), Secretary of State (SOS), Department of Revenue (DOR), and Department of Labor and Industries (L&I). These sessions provided crucial regulatory insights and guidance such as upcoming regulations that will be in effect in 2025 on single-use polystyrene containers and cosmetics. These discussions were tailored to the unique needs of Southeast Asian small business owners and provided them with updates that may temporarily impact their business operations and products.

Business Support and Resources

Attendees received tailored guidance on state regulations and requirements from experts at the Washington State Department of Commerce (Commerce), Department of Ecology, and Department of Business Services (DES). This personalized support was invaluable in helping business owners navigate the complexities of running a business including starting a business, ensuring employee health and safety, process to apply for a UEI number, and ensuring business products and services comply with Washington state environmental regulations.

Vibrant Business Fair

The business fair was a highlight of the event, featuring numerous booths and resources that offered a wealth of information. Participants had the opportunity to explore various programs and opportunities provided by government agencies, which are designed to support entrepreneurs and growing businesses. The fair was filled with activity, and attendees left with many new contacts and resources to help their businesses grow.

Cultural Celebration

This event also served as a celebration of the cultural contributions of Southeast Asian small business owners. All materials were available in Vietnamese and Khmer, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity for all attendees.

Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to the success of this event. Your engagement and enthusiasm made it a truly enriching experience. We look forward to continuing to support the vibrant community of Southeast Asian small business owners. Stay in contact with us for more events and resources to help your business grow!
